H.O.P.E. Fund
In 2008 Credit River Cares established a program that helps families experiencing crises or terminal illness through the H.O.P.E. Fund, or Helping Out People in (healthcare) Emergencies. Credit RIver Cares attempts to alleviate everyday concerns of family members living in the Lakeville/ISD 194 community who are dealing with medical trauma, terminal illness or death. H.O.P.E was designed so family members can put more energies into caring for their loved one and less time worrying about meeting basic daily needs. A local anonymous donor has historically boosted the funds for this program, and was the inspiration for its creation.
In 2008, Credit River Cares used the H.O.P.E. Fund to send a family on a trip. This Lakeville family lost a parent after experiencing tragic illness and dealing with it for more than a year. An outpouring of emotion from the family after the trip spoke of their healing process and how pleased they were to have had the opportunity to spend the quality time together far away from the emotionally devastating experiences they shared for months on end. A more recent update on this family finds the mother pursing a college degree in hope of advancing her families opportunities for future success. She still is speaking of how touched she is by the generosity of the fund. But H.O.P.E. is not only designed to assist families with large-scale items. Sometimes the small gestures can mean so much. In 2008, were also able to provide meals and housekeeping for several families through the H.O.P.E. Fund. In 2009, the H.O.P.E. Fund was used for gift cards containing significant dollar amounts issued to families who had lost loved ones to cancer. These cards were able to be used at discount, pharmacy and grocery stores, gas stations and also to restaurants where these families could get meals they could bring home.We also granted dollars to families experiencing illness to help with the financial burden that goes along with making drives to doctors and hospitals and needing items that would fall outside of the usual budget.
In granting these dollars, Credit River Cares depletes the H.O.P.E. Fund annually. The donations are established on a needs-basis first and foremost and then are handled on a first-come first-serve basis. We welcome private donations and appreciate information that is shared on how we can help make a difference in these families lives. The chart below shows how much Credit RIver Cares relies on these donations and how we grant our full yearly amount to families dealing with medical trauma, terminal illness or death.
Through the H.O.P.E Fund, these families experienced the feeling of community coming together to support them through the isolation and struggles of family illness. In the end, we believe the families were better able to cope with everyday demands and bounce back to contribute to the community that supported them during their time of crisis. Please consider being there for our community members and neighbors struggling with illness and/or death and make a donation to Credit RIver Cares H.O.P.E. Fund today.
